A highly symbolic monument for New Yorkers, Saint Patrick’s Cathedral is located in the Manhattan neighborhood, a few meters from Rockefeller Center. Its facade and main entrance face the chic and famous Fifth Avenue, at the corner of 50th Street. It is the largest Gothic Revival Catholic cathedral in North America. It is dedicated to the worship of the Patron Saint of Ireland. Although work on the cathedral began in 1858, progress was delayed during the North American Civil War, and the building was not completed until 1879.

At 123 meters long and 84 meters wide, St. Patrick’s Cathedral reaches a height of over 100 meters. Although it is very imposing, it is not a match for the Rockefeller Center area where buildings can reach 250 meters.

Go inside the cathedral to admire the ceilings, the 3,700 magnificent stained glass windows and the replica of Michelangelo’s Pietà (which is three times larger than the original statue). There is also a large rose window by Charles Connick measuring 8 meters in diameter, a statue of John Paul II at the back of the building, altars from the famous Tiffany & Co. jewelers and works by artists from around the world.
