Located in Southern California on the Pacific coast, San Diego is a city that is both modern and historic. It’s known for its warm, sunny climate, white sandy beaches, lush parks and gardens, and varied tourist attractions. These include the San Diego Zoo, one of the largest and most renowned in the world; Balboa Park, a vast amusement park; the San Diego Museum of Art, home to an internationally renowned art collection; the San Diego Mission, a Spanish mission founded in 1769; and the Gaslamp Quarter, a historic district in downtown San Diego known for its nightlife.
Apart from San Diego, the region also offers many interesting tourist attractions. Torrey Pines National Reserve is a protected nature reserve with impressive limestone cliffs and, above all, Torrey pines, an endemic species of California flora. La Jolla Bay, to the north of the city, is a sheltered bay known for its crystal-clear waters and marine wildlife including seals, sea lions and seabirds. Coronado State Park, located on an island off the coast of San Diego connected by a bridge, is known for its beaches, lighthouse and iconic hotel. Finally, the Mojave Desert, east of San Diego, offers numerous hiking and camping opportunities.
