Created in 1958 based on a concept by E.M. Stuart, president of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, the Walk of Fame honors show-business personalities. For $55,000, stars can have their star according to their specialty: cinema, theater, television, music or radio. Inlaid on the black granite slabs are more than 2,600 pink stars featuring the names of celebrities: Michael Jackson, Harrison Ford, the Beatles, Nat King Cole, Céline Dion, Jimi Hendrix, Liza Minnelli, Mariah Carey and more.

All the stars are located on the sidewalk with the exception of one, that of Mohamed Ali. Indeed, the star, who had converted to Islam, didn’t want the name of the Prophet Mohamed to be trampled on, and so insisted that his star be placed against a wall. Other stars include fictional stars such as Tinkerbell, Godzilla and the Muppet Show, as well as star dogs like Rintintin! The Victoria’s Secret Angels, the Apollo 11 Lunar Mission and the Los Angeles Police Department also have their own star.

With some 10 million visitors every year, Hollywood Boulevard is a must-see when visiting Los Angeles, and let’s not forget that it’s also where Richard Gere met Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman!

The Walk of Fame was visited on March 26, 2023.
