A small town not far from San Diego, La Jolla (pronounced “roya”) is undoubtedly the little paradise not to be missed when visiting Southern California. Its postcard panoramas, plush mansions overlooking the Pacific, miles of deserted beaches and unique flora and fauna make La Jolla the “jewel” of San Diego.
Sea caves, dream beaches, aquariums, shopping, art galleries, discovering local wildlife such as seabirds and sea lions – there’s no shortage of things to do in La Jolla. La Jolla Cove, the region’s most famous cove, attracts crowds of curious onlookers because of its paradise-like setting. Sea lions also make their home here, cohabiting with bathers on the rocks overlooking the crystal-clear waters, where snorkeling is easy. North of La Jolla, the Torrey Pines State Reserve is a magnificent site. For nature lovers, it’s certainly the ultimate in bliss: the reserve protects a species of pine, the Torrey pine, which is quite distinctive and very fragrant. The site’s landscapes are the perfect backdrop for walks along the ocean.
