Because 6% of the world’s biodiversity can be found in Costa Rica, the country has declared 25% of its territory as national parks, protected areas or reserves. Not far from the Arenal volcano, discover the forest and its thousands of plant and animal species. A 3.2 km trail winds through the rainforest and allows the observation of each level of the forest, from the ground to the canopy, thanks to a total of 16 suspension bridges. Along the way, you can admire two waterfalls and stop at the viewing platform 30 meters above the ground. It is also the ideal place to see many animal species such as multicolored birds and monkeys.
The rainforest on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica is very similar to that found in the Amazon. With rainfall and almost constant heat throughout the year, vegetation grows profusely. The trees are huge, and organized in several height strata. The tropical rainforest of altitude, or cloud forest, is also present in Costa Rica from 1200 m of altitude. Almost always immersed in the mist, it benefits from a humidity of 100%, brought by the winds of the Caribbean coast which crash at the foot of the mountains. The nature is exuberant. The trees are full of epiphytic plants, lianas, mosses and ferns that grow on all the branches. The more the altitude increases and the more the trees become small and twisted. The wind becomes stronger, and the temperatures colder.
