Norway, Oslo
The capital of Norway, Oslo lies on the only major fjord on the southern coast. The city is home to numerous monuments and museums, as well as the Royal Palace, the official residence of the Norwegian royal family. Although the city is very large, it has a very small downtown area, where most of the activity is concentrated. The city’s main asset is its openness to the sea and to nature: Oslo’s parks are a breath of fresh air, and it’s easy to find a place to play outdoor sports or relax. In winter, you can ski on the slopes of one of the nearby hills. On the city side, don’t miss the Akershus citadel, the Oslo opera house, the city hall and the many museums.
Oslo is a city of contrasts! Old buildings coexist with avant-garde boldness. Between the districts of Sørenga and Tjuvholmen, the port area, which is undergoing a profound transformation, will delight urban trekkers who love modern architecture. A stone’s throw away, love it or hate it, but the singular statues of Vigeland Park are among Norway’s most visited attractions. And for a break without breaking the bank, we recommend Mathallen, a covered market between Vulkan and Grünerløkka, with around 30 stalls serving fish & chips, Norwegian products, Italian cuisine, tapas, tacos…
