Mo i Rana, located just below the Arctic Circle, is a Norwegian city offering a unique blend of wilderness, industry and culture. The city boasts a rich cultural scene with theaters, museums and festivals throughout the year, such as the Winter Festival of Lights. Often nicknamed the “Iron City” because of its important steel industry, Mo i Rana is also a gateway to breathtaking scenery.
Discover the Svartisen Glacier, a giant of ice and Norway’s second largest glacier, as well as the Saltfjellet-Svartisen National Park with its endless opportunities for hiking, cross-country skiing and wildlife observation. In the evening, don’t miss the coastal promenade and bucolic Moholmen district, facing the Ranfjord into which the Ranelva River flows. The Havmannen (“Man of the Sea”), the emblem of Mo i Rana, is a granite sculpture by English artist Antony Gormley that looks resolutely out over the fjord.
Mo i Rana was visited on August 18 and 19, 2024.
