Bataan is famous for having been the last stronghold held by American and Philippine forces during the Second World War when Japanese troops invaded the archipelago. Today, the war is still remembered and retraced by the magnificent Balanga Museum, dedicated to the famous Battle of Bataan. But this peninsula, just a few hours’ drive from Manila, has a completely different face. The fine sandy beaches are legion, and even if most of them are private, as is often the case in the Philippines, renting a beach by the day offers an unforgettable experience of relaxation, a far cry from the overcrowding of our Mediterranean beaches.
Camayan, slightly further north, has much the same appeal. Resort hotels are thriving, offering a wide range of activities such as diving, water skiing, hiking, dolphin and sea lion watching or, more simply, enjoying the beach.
These two beaches are examples of the riches that abound in the magnificent Subic Bay, located around 100 kilometers northwest of Manila Bay. At Subic Bay, Ocean Adventures is Southeast Asia’s only open-air marine park. With its fantastic shows and 2 aquariums, it offers multiple opportunities to get up close and personal with unique wildlife, amazing dolphins, sea lions, and many wild animals saved from certain death.
