Located at the southern tip of the Lofoten archipelago, the village of Å (pronounced O) is a veritable time capsule. This picturesque fishing port, frozen in time, offers an authentic glimpse into the traditional life of Norwegian fishermen. The rorbuer, colorful fishing huts on stilts, line the coastline and bear witness to a rich maritime past. The fish dryers, still in use today, hark back to a time when fishing was the village’s main activity.
Today, Å is an open-air museum. Visitors can explore the Norsk Fiskeværsmuseum and the Lofoten Tørrfiskmuseum to learn more about the history of Lofoten fishing. The cobbled streets, craft stores and local restaurants contribute to the authentic atmosphere of this village.
The village of Å i Lofoten was visited on August 22, 2024.
