Nicknamed the “Pearl of the Orient”, Manila only reveals its attractions to those who take the time to discover them. Hardly spared, the city has suffered many human and natural disasters, but this has not prevented it from becoming a bustling Asian megalopolis.
Manila is a rather noisy and polluted city. Nevertheless, it’s worth strolling through Manila’s alleyways because, like all major cities in Southeast Asia, it buzzes, surprises and disturbs… There are also a few tourist spots to explore, such as Manila Intramuros, Manila’s old quarter, where you can discover a church, a cathedral and Fort Santiago. And if you’re looking for a relaxing break, Rizal Park is just around the corner. These are usually the only places tourists visit in Manila.
Add to this a penchant for laid-back cocktail bars, artisan markets and excellent roasted coffee, and you’ll find that Manila is not only one of Asia’s most underrated cities, but also one of its trendiest.
