Travel notes from Germany, a country steeped in history at the heart of Europe

Between natural and cultural treasures, a country that has left its mark on history

Germany, shaped by a turbulent history punctuated by bellicose episodes, is today a multi-ethnic melting pot resolutely turned towards its future. The portrait of a rich industrial country with hard-working, efficient inhabitants is only a truncated image of a great nation that has undeniably left its mark on the culture and art of the whole of Europe.

The country is bordered to the north by Denmark, the North Sea and the Baltic Sea, to the east by Poland and the Czech Republic, to the south by Austria and Switzerland, and to the west by France, Luxembourg, Belgium and the Netherlands.

Germany is home to no fewer than thirty world heritage treasures. Travelers will be in a permanent state of wonder at such diversity; from romantic Heidelberg, through medieval Nuremberg to cosmopolitan Berlin.

Numerous touring routes will take you to Germany’s most beautiful natural sites, from vineyards on the Rhine to the Bavarian Alps, Lake Constance or the Black Forest. Munich’s Oktoberfest, one of the world’s biggest festivals, will give you a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in folk and popular traditions, and enjoy the country’s famous beers and generous culinary specialties.
