In downtown Oslo, around the main street Karl Johans Gate, you’ll find all kinds of clubs, bars, cafés and jazzclubs, as well as boutiques, hotels and several shopping centers. This street is truly the vital artery of the Norwegian capital, and it’s also Oslo’s parade street on May 17, when the streets are packed with people from all over the city, decked out for the party.
In December, the streets are decked out with the most beautiful decorations, and traditional music and carols ring out all the way to the Spikersuppa Christmas market. Yet the streets are quiet and pleasant to stroll through, all the way to the Akershus fortress or the port of Aker Brygge. You may even have the opportunity to meet the mounted police, who are happy to have their photo taken, much to the delight of tourists.
The streets of Oslo were covered from December 23 to 26, 2018.
