Pittulongu beach is a beautiful stretch of fine sand dotted with small shells. Just a few minutes’ drive from Olbia, it’s a must for visitors arriving in the region. Popular with Sardinians and tourists alike, this popular main beach is an ideal destination for an afternoon in the sun. Pittulongu beach comprises four beaches, spread over 1.3 kilometers along the coastline. The main beach, La Playa, is the favorite of the area’s regulars. Dozens of restaurants and bars can be found all around the beach. You can enjoy your meal with a view of the sea, or simply relax with a cool drink.

Take a stroll to the more peaceful “spiaggia dello Squalo” (or shark beach) – separated from La Playa by a small rocky promontory. Although smaller than La Playa, you won’t feel cramped on this quiet beach, bordered by lush vegetation. Continuing your stroll, you’ll eventually reach the “spiaggia del Pellicano” (pelican beach), famous for its crystal-clear waters. The last of the four beaches, known as “spiaggia Mare e Rocce” (literally “sea and rocks”), is the most beautiful of all.

The waters off the shore are relatively shallow, making it an ideal beach for children to swim and play in safety. As you walk along the coast, you’ll catch a glimpse of Isola Tavolara, the island of Tavolara, which lies offshore to the south-east. This rectangular limestone massif rises 500 metres above sea level and is home to a small population of Sardinian mouflons and a few farming families.

The walk on Pittulongu beach was made in August 2010.
