Amsterdam is a well-thought-out city, with its spider’s web of parallel canals. It was built with the circulation of goods and merchandise from all over the Dutch empire in mind. Today, it’s possible to walk from the port to the old city center along straight, wide streets. There are few cars on the streets, but bicycles are ubiquitous. Amsterdam’s famous 9 streets are packed with unique designer boutiques, cafés, tea rooms, galleries and restaurants. Their window displays are each more photogenic than the last, and it’s the place to be in the city for bargain-hunting and surprising finds.
The Dutch have a green thumb and a love of nature. Step outside the red light district and you’re sure to come across one. Beautifully designed, with flowers, water and works of art: Amsterdam’s parks are well worth a visit. Ideal for a romantic stroll, a picnic with friends or a summer concert. Amsterdam’s most popular park is Vondelpark.
Strolls through the streets and parks of Amsterdam were made from June 7 to 9, 2013.
