
The forest and unspoiled nature that surround the city are just 20 minutes from downtown Oslo. In winter, cross-country ski trails abound and the winter park, easily accessible from Volsenkollen, a metro station (line 1) before the Frognerseteren terminus, offers all the joys of winter sports in an idyllic setting.
The Nordmarka Forest offers outstanding leisure activities, particularly at Holmenkollen, Frognerseteren, Sørkedalen and Sognsvann. They’re easy to reach by public transport, and all are starting points for numerous forest walks!
While it’s possible to go downhill skiing in Norway – the country is home to over 30 ski resorts – Norway is above all renowned for its cross-country ski trails. The Oslo region, for example, boasts more than 2,000 kilometers of cross-country ski trails, giving you the chance to discover Norway’s snow-covered mountains and forests, and perhaps even the Northern Lights.
