The National Gallery of Oslo‘s rich art collection is presented in a highly original way. Works in a variety of styles and from different eras are cleverly placed in relation to one another: for example, a monochrome canvas by Arne Malmedal dialogues with the Enchanted Forest by Munch; a landscape by Johan Christian Dahl responds to “Vue du jas de Bouffan” by Cézanne. You’ll follow the evolution of Norwegian painting, particularly the national Romantic movement (19th century). Highlight: a version of The Scream by Munch.
The National Gallery closed on January 13, 2019 to ensure a safe moving process to the new National Museum, which will open in Vestbanen in 2020. For more information on the move.
Oslo’s National Gallery was visited on December 22, 2018.
