A few kilometers from Tarragona, nestled in the heart of the Catalan countryside, stands the small medieval town of Montblanc. This historic gem is sure to charm you.

As soon as you arrive, you’ll be overwhelmed by the imposing fortifications that encircle the town. Built in the 14th century by Pierre le Cérémonieux, these walls, 1.2 kilometers long and 6 metres high, once protected Montblanc from enemy invasion. Over the centuries, they were integrated into the town’s urban fabric, providing the inhabitants with an original support on which to build their homes. Now restored and open to the public, the fortifications of Montblanc invite you to take a trip back in time. From the top of their ramparts, you’ll be able to take in the town and its surroundings from a single vantage point, discovering an exceptional panorama. A landscape dominated by a geological curiosity: the “giant’s nose”, a mountain with a singular profile that seems to watch over the city.

As you enter the historic heart of Montblanc, you’ll be fascinated by its picturesque lanes and ancient buildings. The former 16th-century hospital, now a regional archive and exhibition space, bears witness to the town’s rich past. The 14th-century church, rebuilt in Baroque style after its destruction in the 17th century, is another Montblanc must-see. Its elegant architecture and refined décor are sure to win you over.
