In Florida, as almost everywhere else in the United States, the car is king. Numerous rental agencies allow you to reserve a car for the duration of your trip, often with unlimited mileage. The roads are wide and straight in Florida, so there’s no difficulty in driving. Only the highways can be impressive, and we sometimes counted up to 8 lanes in the same direction. You need to anticipate any changes of direction, especially the exit you want to take.
All kinds of roads coexist in Florida, and some of them allow you to discover incredible landscapes. Such is the case of the famous Overseas Highway, also known as “the road to the Keys”, which links Miami to Key West. In national parks such as the Everglades, the speed limit is often quite low to avoid accidents or hitting animals crossing the road. There are plenty of free and fee-paying parking lots throughout the region. Please note that some parking lots are only available by the day, meaning that you pay a single rate whether you stay for 15 minutes or the whole day.
