Created in 1936, the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden covers 34 hectares in the town of Coral Gables, south of Miami. It brings together some very rare species, thousands of orchids, dozens of different species of palm trees, collections of Madagascar cacti, wetland greenhouses with exotic butterflies, fish and more. The tour begins in the lower part, facing Biscayne Bay, where a small streetcar takes you for a panoramic view of the garden’s lowlands and lakes. In the upper part, discover other collections and exhibits such as the aquatic gardens and aquatic exhibits, the Arboretum and the Geiger tropical flower garden, the butterfly garden and the children’s garden.
A true tropical oasis in the heart of the city, the botanical garden features over 3,400 species. Fairchild hosts mango, chocolate and orchid festivals, art exhibitions and concerts throughout the year.
Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden was visited on March 6, 2020.
